Bridging the Chasm (BtC) Collaborative Published in Women’s Health Issues
We are excited to share that Dr. Arden Handler was part of the Bridging the Chasm (BtC) Collaborative effort which published an article in the journal Women’s Health Issues today, International Women’s Day, March 8th 2021. This article is: “Bridging the Chasm between Pregnancy and Health over the Life Course: A National Agenda for Research and Action”. Also, published today in Women’s Health Issues is another article from BtC, “It’s Time to Eliminate Racism and Fragmentation in Women’s Health Care.” The articles detail an agenda to close the gaps that contribute to preventable maternal death and illness later in life among all women, but most especially Black, Indigenous, and other women of color. Both articles will be free and available to everyone for 30 days.

More about the Bridging the Chasm Collaborative:
The Bridging the Chasm agenda is the product of two years of collective work, launched at an innovative national conference hosted at Boston University in 2018, co-organized by McCloskey and Dr. Judith Bernstein, PhD, emeritus professor of community health sciences at BUSPH. The conference brought together women with lived experiences of complicated pregnancies, clinicians, researchers, health system innovators, policymakers, and private sector advocates to identify the gaps in care after pregnancy and other systemic issues, and to outline an agenda for transformation. A group of dedicated stakeholders—the Bridging the Chasm Collaborative—co-created the resulting agenda. The Bridging the Chasm Collaborative was funded by the Patient Centered Outcome Research Institute (PCORI) Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award; the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases; and the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Research on Women’s Health.
