Dr. Kelley Presents on COVID-19 and School Safety

Michele Kelley, Associate Professor Emerita of Maternal and Child Health at the UIC School of Public Health, was invited to present a COVID-19 update tailored for school safety in Utah to women policymakers, community leaders, and education organization leadership. The videoconference took place on August 14, 2021.

While anti-mask mandates are being challenged though legal and administrative channels, health literacy about the pandemic and disease control measures is vital. This includes user-friendly public health facts, and evidenced- based options for the health of students, teachers, and school personnel; and appreciation of the potential impact of school COVID-19 mitigation on families and communities. Most of all, the well-being, health equity, and academic success of students needs to be considered.
