CoE-MCH Statement on the Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

A statement from the UIC Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health on the June 24, 2022 Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, originally posted on the CoE-MCH social media platforms:

Today’s action overturning Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court is an egregious attack on bodily autonomy. This decision effectively rolls back the clock to the time in our nation when women and people of color had no fundamental rights, and sends the message that our country no longer recognizes any person’s right to decide whether or when they want to parent, free from government interference.

Abortion is fundamental healthcare. Without the right to access abortion, the health, and very lives, of women and people who can become pregnant are threatened. As public health students, faculty, and staff, the UIC Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health will continue to fight to ensure that all persons throughout the US have an opportunity to obtain the services they need to ensure their dignity, their privacy, and their health and well-being, and that of their families.
