About
Over the past 5 years, Elena has worked with various organizations working to advance maternal and child health. During the senior year of her undergraduate career at UW-Madison, she interned with the Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health (now Embolden WI). Elena supported the generation and outreach of voting materials geared towards women's health. After graduation, Elena was selected for the CDC's PHAP program, where she was placed with the host-site EverThrive Illinois (ETI). Elena was placed on their immunizations team, in which she worked on various social media campaigns, most namely ETI's National Infant Immunization Week Campaign. Additionally, Elena co-facilitated various community meetings and focus groups geared towards immunizations and infant immunizations. Currently, she is a Graduate Assistant at UIC's Women's Leadership and Resource Center.
While she am interested in all fields of maternal and child health, the following areas are where Elena is most interested: birth equity in urban areas, pregnancy and challenges facing LGBTQ+ individuals, breast/cervical cancer. Elena aims to create more equitable and personal data in her future career by incorporating aspects of community health and outreach into her work as a future epidemiologist. She also aims to use this data to help inform issues such as maternal mortality, disparities amongst those who give birth, and LGBTQ+ fertility and pregnancy challenges.
Fun Fact: Elena has a dog, Kacey, who just turned 16 this year!
