About
Zaneta is a first year MPH student in the Community Health Sciences Division with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health. Prior to attending UIC, she earned a bachelor's of science degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Northeastern University. During her time at Northeastern, she worked as a paralegal for Prisoners' Legal Services of Massachusetts where she supported clients with their medical needs and became interested in the field of public health. Since graduating in 2022, Zaneta spent a year working at the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research as an Administrative Coordinator, where health equity was a large focus of many of the research projects she supported the Center with. During the 2023-2024 school year, Zaneta served as an English Teaching Assistant at an Italian high school through the U.S. Fulbright Program.
Zaneta's areas of interest within maternal and child health include birth justice, Black maternal mortality, and reproductive health care for incarcerated populations. Zaneta hopes that her time at UIC will allow her to actively engage with local community partners working in the MCH space, as well as to develop essential research skills.
Fun fact: Zaneta loves traveling and tries to collect a snow globe from any new city that she visits.
